Group 23 are descendants of Daniel Carpenter-96698 whose claimed father is Richard Carpenter-199356. Unfortunately, we have a serious genetic difference between other claimed sons of Richard Carpenter. Their genetic profile, but unconnected genealogically, is part of Group 3 - the Rehoboth, MA Carpenter line.
BUT ... because of very serious Y-DNA genetic differences we are faced with the spectre of a Non-Paternal or Non-Paternity Event or NPE. Often this ocurrs with a formal or informal adoption of another surname entirely matching our different Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project Groups. Imagine a young widow with a very young son remarrying. The son bonds with his step-father and adopts his surname. In older times this was an informal adoption. In more modern times, society has more formalized this into a legal adoption process. But in olden times things were less formal and a husband was assumed by the community to take care of all children.
Are there other versions of this Non-Parental Events – aka Non-Paternity Events (NPEs)? Yes. This can include rape, child stealing and other similar things. This can includes bad or incorrect genealogy.
With Group 23, with a lack of parental data, we suspect bad genealogy but we can not prove it. Thus we list Daniel Carpenter-96698 as an adopted son of Richard Carpenter-199356 in the Group 3 descendant report. IN THIS REPORT, we list only Daniel Carpenter-96698 and his descendants.
See more details and images on these genetic differences in the Table of Contents below.
FYI - The number after the surname is a record information number (RIN) from the Carpenter Cousins Project master genealogical database. See: The Carpenter Cousins Project
Group 23 is genetically unique from other Carpenter/Zimmerman groups within the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project. Especially compared to the Group 3 genetic profile.
The Group 23 descendants are both genetically and genealogically connected. This includes those who are reasonably believed to be related but are not proved. Read the NOTES.
