Enoch E. Carpenter, 77 of 345 Stevenson Street, died at 2 p.m. Monday at the Adams County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for two days. He had been in failing health several years.Born in Kirkland Township, Dec. 27, 1894, he was a son of Jesse and Emma Estill-Carpenter, and was married to Gladys Heller, Oct. 2, 1919.Mr. Carpenter was a retired farmer and had also been employed at the Broadway plant of the General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne for several years. The family resided near Columbia City for 20 years, returning to Decatur four years ago.A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Adams Post 43, American Legion, and attended the Decatur Wesleyan Church.Surviving are his wife; four sons, Glenn Carpenter of Peru route 4, Richard Carpenter of Columbia City, route 7, Wayne Carpenter of Decatur and Donald Carpenter of Huntington route 5; four sisters, Mrs. Carl (Martha) Meyer of Cincinnati, O., Mrs. Elwood (Naomi) Noel of Cleves, O., Mrs. Millard (Susan) Graham of Fayette, O., and Mrs. Mary Martin of Harrison, O.; three brothers, Harry Carpenter of Bluffton route 3, Levi Carpenter of Fort Wayne, and Ralph Carpenter of Kendallville route 1; and 14 grandchildren. One sister and one brother are deceased.Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Zwick funeral home, with Rev. Richard Dolby officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today until time of the services.

Bio: Ruby Carpenter (April 25, 1919 - November 20, 2009) RUBY OPAL CARPENTER, age 90, of Kendallville, died on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Allen Township of Noble County, Indiana on April 25, 1919 to the late Albert and Lillie (Bell) Varner. She married Ralph "Shorty" Carpenter on November 16, 1938 in Avilla and he preceded her death July 26, 1983. She was a homemaker and former member of the Allen Township Extension Homemakers Club. She was also a member of the First Church of God in Kendallville. Ruby enjoyed craft making and traveling. Survivors include: Daughter, Jean and John Allread of St. Paris, Ohio. Son, Carl and Sandy Carpenter of Huntertown. Son, Paul and Marilyn Carpenter of Kendallville. Two granddaughters: Jill Allread and her partner, Pam Freese of Chicago, Illinois and Shelly and Dale Cummins of Collins. Seven grandsons: Scott Carpenter of Huntertown, Terry Carpenter of Churubusco, Jerry and Terri Allread of Wellington, Ohio, Jim and Candice Allread of West Chester, Ohio, Tony and Melissa Carpenter of Kendallville, Matt and Amy Carpenter of Kendallville, and Mike and Beth Carpenter of Huntertown. Step grandsons, Chris and Jeff Molargik of Fort Wayne. 7 great-granddaughters and 10 great-grandsons. Nephew, LeRoy Altimus of Brimfield. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Iva Altimus and Perma Varner, and a great grandson, Jerry Lee Allread, Jr. Visitation will be Monday, November 23, 2009, from 10:0am-1:30pm at First Church of God, 111 South Oak Street in Kendallville. Funeral services will be Monday, November 23, 2009 at 1:30pm at First Church of God. Officiating the funeral service will be Pastor Jim Kane. Burial will be at Sweet Cemetery in Albion. Casketbearers will be Ruby's grandchildren. Preferred Memorials may be made to First Church of God Building Fund. Funeral arrangements entrusted to: Hite Funeral Home of Kendallville.

Born Nov. 3, 1923, in Allen County, he was the son of the late Cloid Carpenter and Margaret Ellingwood. He served in the Army During World War II. He was a custodian at the Allen County Public Library for 16 Years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Northside Missionary Church. Surviving ae his sisters, Madelyn Fusselman of Fort Wayne and Mary Sifuentis of Princeton, Texas; and brothers, Rev. Harry Carpenter of Johnson City, Texas, Lester Carpenter of Texas and Richard Carpenter of Fort Wayne. He also preceded in death by his wife, Rose (Hall). Funeral service is 11 a.m. Thursday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Harry Carpenter officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, with military graveside service. Preferred memorials to Northside Missionary Church.
