"An unconfirmed statement from the records in Richmond, Virginia Library states that John Carpenter lived in Westmoreland County, Virginia, where most if not all of his children were born. He served as a Revolutionary War soldier. His service is referred to in a report in the Virginia State Library from 1911 to 1912. He is given as a resident of Virginia in 1790 with a family."
In a letter from the War Department, Washington, D.C. dated 5 Jul 1935 states:
"The records of this office show that several men named John Carpenter served in the Revolutionary War in various organizations from the State of Virginia."
From the "Early History in Virginia" then found in the State Libary at Richmond reports the children of John and Mary Carpenter.
