After retirement, Fred (as he is called) took up several hobbies; one which was most pleasant was a collection of American Indians Artifacts, Baskets, Pottery, Bead Work, Torquoise and Silver Jewelry; also a study of their way of life many hundreds of years ago.
Fritz or Fred has made many Indian friends in many Indian Tribes in Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and became close friends with a Zuni family, where he collected clothing for them for many years, a family of Jemrz Indians at the James Reservation.
He has been invited to attend weddings, Tribal Ceremonies, Religious Ceremonys and Dances at Zuni. Their Shalakco was very impressive and beautiful. He has visited with the Navajo in Monument Valley, Taso of Santa Fe, San Ildefouso, The White Mountain Apache, Pima, Paosgo, Acamo, and many other Tribes.
He spent many pleasant hours listening to their tales and eating with them in their homes. These Indians have accompanied him to old burial grounds and permitted him to examine graves and collect rare articles. All these Indians call Fritz, "GRANDPA FRED," and rightly so, for he is truly their friend.
