The Standard-Freeholder, Cornwall, ON - 21 April 1937Mrs. Matt Eamer, Aged Resident Buried Sunday [says Monday, below] Well Known Woman Was In Her 91st Year; Many At Funeral Recovering from a serious illness from pneumonia during January last and in her usual health up to Easter, Mrs. Matthias Eamer, one of the oldest residents of Cornwall, died at her home 521 Gloucester street, at 10.20 o'clock Friday night. [16 April 1937]
Mrs. Eamer's death severs a link with the past in this section, as she was born at the Toll Gate and would have reached her 91st birthday had she been spared until May 3 [or 8. Neither of which match 1901 census.] Up to the first of the year Mrs. Eamer had enjoyed remarkably good health for a woman of her age and was quite smart and active. During recent weeks time began to take its toll and the machinery of life gradually weakened until death came peacefully Friday night. Mrs. Eamer, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Carpenter, was a daughter of Solomon Carpenter and was a member of one of the pioneer families of this district. She spent her long and useful life between the old home section and Cornwall, making her home here since her marriage 69 years ago.
She was one of the original members of the Church of the Good Shepherd and for many years was actively associated with the Ladies' Guild of that church. In her own home circle she was a devoted wife and mother, a woman ever ready to do a kindly act for neighbor [sic] or friend, and she enjoyed the love and esteem of all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. Her death will be regretted by her many friends.
Her husband died August 7, 1932. Left to mourn her loss are three sons and three daughters - Mrs. Hugh Adams, Marcellus, N.Y.; Mrs. George Warner, Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Margaret Doyle, Perth; John Eamer, David Eamer and Alexander Eamer, all of Cornwall. She also leaves three brothers - Matthias Carpenter, and George Carpenter, Cornwall; Wallace Carpenter, Cornwall Centre. She also had four great grandchildren - Mary Adams, Toronto; Jean Melson, Cornwall; William and James Johnston, of Youngstown, Ohio. Funeral Monday Attended by many old friends of the family, the funeral was held from her home, Monday afternoon to the Church of the Good Shepherd and Woodlawn cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. A. D. Floyde, rector. The pall bearers were J. J. McCutcheon, Alex. Adams, William Munroe, Alex. Perier, David McCracken and Lindsay Kirkey. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. George Warner and David Warner, of Youngstown, Ohio; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gorman, of St. Catherine's; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Adams and Mrs. Lester Norris, of Marcellus; Mrs. Andrew Doyle, of Perth; Mrs. Margaret Carpenter and her sister, Mrs. Thomas Flynn, of Chesterville; Mr. and Mrs. A. Lowe and Mrs. James Byers, of Montreal; Bert McKercher, of Vernon, Ont.; Ernest Carpenter, Mrs. James Perry and Mrs. Florence Melsom, of Montreal; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Freebourne, Marcellus, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. John Angell and Mrs. Myrtle Chatsson, of Beaupaire, Que.; Mrs. William Fishbourne, of Ottawa; Louis Derosiers, manager of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company; Percy Perry, Joseph Rochon, Lionel Laniel, all of Valleyfield. The wealth of beautiful floral offerings which surrounded the casket were evidences of the esteem in which Mrs. Eamer was held and the sorrow felt at her death. The family also received many messages of condolence.

The Freeholder, Cornwall, ON - January 10, 1918At Thorold on Thursday morning of last week, [3 January 1918] Mrs. Alice Bisillion passed suddenly away from heart failure, at the age of 56 years. The deceased lady who was a daughter of the late Solomon Carpenter, and was born at Eamer Corners.
She spent practically all her life in Cornwall, removing to Thorold only 2 years ago to live with her 2 sons. Her husband, the late Louis Bissillion, was killed 20 years ago, while in the employ of M. P. Davis at Mille Roches. Mrs. Bissillion leaves 2 sons, Aeneas and Clarence of Thorold; also 2 sisters - Mrs. Matthew Eamer and Mrs. Patrick Cosgrove of Cornwall and 5 brothers - George and Wallace, of Cornwall, Aeneas of Thorold, C.J. of Quebec City and Mathias of Cornwall township.
The funeral took place from the home of Patrick Cosgrove, Pitt Street, at 2.30 p.m. Sunday afternoon [6 Jan 1918], to Trinity Church and Woodlawn cemetery, Rev. M.G. Poole officiating at the church and grave.
The Rector, Rev. W. Netten, M.A., held service at the house on Saturday afternoon owing to his being unable to officiate on Sunday.
A large number of friends, turned out to pay their last tribute of respect to the memory of deceased. The pallbearers were Thomas Flanagan, G. R. Phillips, G. S. Kilgour, Joseph Hessell, Andrew McAlear and Wallace McPhee. Among the relatives present from a distance were the 2 sons, Clarence and Aeneas, Aeneas Carpenter, brother, and daughters, Miss Mary Carpenter, who is attending the Normal School in Ottawa and who spent the Christmas holidays with her aunt and Miss Myrtle Carpenter, all of Thorold; C. J. Carpenter of Quebec City and Wallace Carpenter of Lachine; and Messrs Bisillion, nephews of Embrun.
Messages of sympathy were sent from friends in Thorold, and a great number of beautiful floral tributes were sent, including a pillow from the children and foster children; heart from Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Carpenter and family; sprays from Mr. & Mrs. Patrick Cosgrove and family; Miss Berna Kirkup and Aeneas Carpenter and children, the Misses Mary and Myrtle, who made their home with Mrs. Bissillion since the death of Mrs. Carpenter in 1903, and who know the loss of a devoted mother.

The Freeholder, Cornwall, ON - 31 October 1918Mrs. Wallace Carpenter A well-known and highly respected resident of Cornwall, Mrs. Wallace Carpenter, was called away from a loving husband and family on Saturday last {26 OCT 1918], in her 49th year. The deceased lady, whose maiden name was Eliza M. Crites, was a daughter of the late George Crites, and was a native of Cornwall.
Her husband mourns her decease with one son, Wallace George, and three daughters - Maude and Margaret at home and Madge in Montreal. Mrs. Carpenter was a good woman in every sense of the word, generous in her disposition and a true friend to all her neighbors. She was a valued member of Trinity Woman's Auxiliary. Her funeral, which was very largely attended, was held on Tuesday, Rev. W. Netten, M.A., Rector, officiating. The remains were interred in Woodlawn cemetery. The pallbearers were Walter, David and William Crites (brothers), Matthew Carpenter, George S. Carpenter and Hugh A. Campbell. Among friends from outside points were Wilfred Lamour, Dorval; C.J. Carpenter, Quebec; W.P. Crites, Westmount; David M. Crites, Notre Dame de Grade, Montreal.

No. 405 "Vancouver" Squadron was a RCAF Squadron, based in Britain and under RAF operational command. It was the first of many Canadian heavy bomber squadrons that would eventually equip all of No.6 Group of Bomber Command. On 12 June 1941 it took part in its first raid over Germany, and remained with Bomber Command until October 1942.
