COMMENT: 1813 - B.S. Carpenter and John M. Carpenter signers.
Simeon Sylvest was one of the six signers of the Articles of Corporation of Mount Nebo Baptist Church of St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana situated several miles North and East of Amite, Louisiana in what is now Tangipahoa Parish. The other five signers are George W. Addison, B.S. Carpenter, John M. Carpenter,Thos. D. Zachary and William Sanders. No date for this signing was given. This record was found in Baptist Church records for Southeastern Louisiana. In this book there was the claim that Mount Nebo Baptist Church is the oldest non-Catholic church in Louisiana outside of the city of New Orleans. The date was 1813.

Damon,
The web page you cited provides new data and links your John M. to B. S. (Samuel “Burrell”) Carpenter and as Samuel Christopher Carpenter. Sadly the source material is not present. I hope you get in contact with the author.
From the tripod web page regarding: III Simeon Sylvest. I extract the following as a COMMENT into notes.

MORE:
It is believed that Mary Jane came from a family of six children. John Carpenter [John M.] is said to have had two brothers and they were the sons of Samuel Christopher. Her family was to have included an older sister named Georgia Eva who was married to Walter Fountain and they had four children. A brother Preston Morgan Carpenter was married to Maggie Varnado and they had three children. Mary Jane had a sister named Charity who married a Mr. Brooks and raised a family then she had still another sister, Susan Carpenter who married Leander Stevens and raised a family in and around Amite, Louisiana.
IF the above is correct ...
Samuel Christopher Carpenter (RIN 174161) aka “Burrell” “B.S.” & a brother John M. Carpenter - alive in 1813.
| John M. (174127) - Brother 1 - Brother 2 <---- I have Lawrence M., John G. and Burrell Samuel Jr as brothers.
|| Mary Jane (174131) plus 5 siblings - Georgia Eva, Preston Morgan (174129), Charity (174130), Susan (174142) plus one not named. <------ I have Vinson J. (174136) also listed as a sibling.
This means we have two and a half new names.
Samuel Christopher “Burrell” “BS” (1/2 new) Carpenter
John M. Carpenter (new – brother)
Georgia Eva (sister to Mary Jane)
This opens up some new research possibilities!
