Notes for THEODORE TAYSIVAN BOUTWELL:
Aunt Betty and Aunt Ruby said Mary said her  mom's name was Margana.

Aunt Betty said that Theodore looked stern in his pictures, but in life was a kind man.  He would wiggle his ears and play his violin and make wonderful cajun music.  He also played the bass drum and the fiddle.  They used to call him Old Coot Boutwell.  A cajun nickname. He moved from Eagle Lake to Rock Island and opened a Blacksmith shop. He was a carpenter by trade though.  He was multi talented.  His plan was to move to some land and get rich on being a peanut farmer.  That never  happened. Aunt Betty said that when Theodore was real sick, before he died, that there was a man downstairs ( Burns St, Houston) in their kitchen making home brew. Once he found out about it, he thru the brew and the man out of the house. He didn't drink. He was a religous man. He moved from Folsom La, to EagleLake Tx, to Rock Island, Tx, Cuero Tx, and then finally to Houston in Nov. 1925.  They left  via train from Bogalusa La to Texas in 1911 or 1912. He died of-per death record-Nephritis El--mic  and 2nd contributor-Asthma. Can't read the writing very well. Betty Boutwell Hacker said that Theodore had heart problems, which contributed to kidney failure. Betty also said that the last 18 months of his life, he spent most of the time, in Jeff Davis Hospital-Allen Parkway, Houston, Tx., with complications of Arthritis. He had it very bad.

Mr. Theodore Boutwell from the Undertaking Parlor at Eagle Lake, Texas, at 10:00 o'clock Friday morning, August 9th., 1929. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
(Funeral Notice supplied by Lucinda (Betty) Boutwell Hacker)

Moved to Texas in 1912 via Train per Aunt Ruby Boutwell Martin. She remembered because she made up a song that rhymed with that year.

Mary Missouri Cutrer

Notes for MARY MISSOURRI CUTRER:
Mary Missourri was the only daughter between Henry H. Cutrer and Mararet Zachary. Not long after their union, they split up, leaving Margaret to care for her daughter.  When Margaret died, Mary Missourri, Laura and John were taken back to the Reservation and worked the fields.  Mary Annie Boutwell heard of this and went and got them and had them live with her and her family. Mary Missourri wanted to marry a Catholic man, and Mary Annie wouldn't let her. Later she let Theodore and Mary Missourri marry. They lived in Folsom La, then migrated to Eaglelake, Tx, then to Rock Island, Tx then Cuero, Tx, and finally in Houston. (Per Betty Boutwell Hacker-daughter)

When Mary and Theodore lived in Cuero, Theodore went to work for Guadalupe Cottonmill, and Mary ran the Cottonmill Boarding House.  Ruby helped take care of the kids so she could do this. Mary lived with her daughter, Lucinda (betty) Boutwell Hacker at 308 Ave. of Oaks, in Houston until she died of liver cancer. One day Betty and Ruby were exercising in the kitchen and Mary came and joined them.  Later that day, Fanny, Betty's maid went into Mary's bedroom and shortly came out stating that the doctor needed to be called.  The doctor came over and examined Mary and told Betty and Ruby that their mother had cancer. Apparently this was her family doctor and he might have been told not to say anything prior to this. Her nickname was Shorty. She was loved by all. She is burried over the bridge and then to the right and right by the wishing well at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Betty said her mom was a great cook, sewed their clothes, and couldn't read.

Maurine H. Hewitt

GRAVE: no grave image - bio picture
Maurine “Mamaw” Hewitt Boutwell
Birth: 28 Sep 1921 Weches, Houston County, Texas, USA
Death: 17 Mar 2014 (aged 92) Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
Burial: Forest Park Cemetery, Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
Memorial #: 126510259
Bio:
Maurine Boutwell, affectionately known as "Mamaw" went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 17, 2014 following a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's Disease.

Predeceased by her first husband, LeRoy Bates and son LeRoy Bates, Jr. Also predeceased by her husband Douglas Boutwell, mother Gertrude Hewitt and father Pinck Hewitt. Brothers Grant Hewitt and Kayo Hewitt predeceased her.

Maurine was born in Weches, Texas on September 28, 1921. She led a very eventful and fulfilling life in her 92 years. Among her many accomplishments were attaining her college degree from Sam Houston State University (formally known as Sam Houston State Teachers College). She also served in the U. S. Navy, traveling as a model and recruiter while there. She met her first husband, LeRoy Bates, during this time. They married and their only son LeRoy Jr. was born. Both Navy pilots, their lives were cut short in the line of duty. She later met and married Douglas Boutwell, father of their three daughters. They lived in Houston and were married for 58 wonderful years. Maurine spent those years as a homemaker constantly and unselfishly tending to her families' needs. Among her many talents were sewing for her daughters (many matching outfits!), needlepoint and stitchery, quilting & painting. She was also an accomplished pianist. Her projects will be enjoyed and serve as reminders of her special gifts for generations to come.

Above all, she was a Christian lady, serving her Lord at Lazybrook Baptist Church as a member of the choir, church secretary, and volunteer for various committees. She was a living example of her Christian values - Always a gentle word to be spoken, a gracious and kind "Southern lady". Family and friends never heard her say an unkind word about anyone. Mamaw loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending all their schools and extra-curricular activities, rooting them on sometimes above all others in attendance. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Terrace at Champions for all the love and care they showed during her stay. Also, thanks to Wray and Pat Page and Prudy Brown, true friends that always remembered her through the years.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, March 20 at 10:00 A.M., Rev. J. K. Minton officiating, also at Heights Funeral Home.J. K. was like her second "son" who attended the United States Naval Academy along with her son, LeRoy.

Burial will follow services at Forest Park Lawndale cemetery.

Arrangements under the direction of Heights Funeral Home, Houston, TX.

Maurine lived to be 92 years, 5 months and 19 days old.
