He was a compositor for The Courier-Journal and a school bus driver for New Albany Floyd County Schools.
He attended Main Street United Methodist Church.
He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, member of the Hobart Beach Post #1693 V.F.W., Bonnie Sloan Post #28 American Legion and Former Democratic City Council member during Mayor Erni's administration.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy J. (Wells) Carpenter; two sons, Kevin A. Carpenter (Cindy), Louisville, and Keith A. Carpenter (Peggy), Floyds Knobs, IN; two daughters, Karen A. Merrill (Paul), Greenville, IN, and Karla A. Oller (Tom), New Albany, IN; and seven grandchildren, Paula Merrill, Krista Merrill, Erica Merrill, Duffy Weber, Mickey Weber, Benjamin Carpenter and Katelyn Carpenter.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at the Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with interment in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

Funeral services for Zane Shrader, 84, of Clarksville, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, in the Paul F. Kraft Sr. Memorial Chapel at Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Tuesday May 27, 2008.
He was a retired professional musician. He was born April 17, 1924 in New Albany, to the late Louis and Pearl Cooke Shrader.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Rita Carpenter Shrader; daughters, Jill Sceifers and her husband, Joe, Charlestown, and Jackie Shrader, New Albany.
In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by a son, Michael Shrader.
Visitation at the funeral home will be form 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 30 and after 9 a.m. Saturday.

Mary E. Carpenter
Mary Ellen Carpenter, 88, New Salisbury, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Hosparus Inpatient Care Center in Louisville.
Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Central, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Nora Harper Cunningham.
She was a member of Hursttown United Methodist Church near Corydon and the Ladies Aid at her church and was a former employee of Wennings Packing Company in Central Barren and Pillsbury in New Albany.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Wesley Carpenter; a sister, Mildred Carver; and three brothers, Ruel, Corda and Charles Cunningham.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Ann Day of Louisville; a sister, Kay Ament of Louisville; a grandson, Jeremy Lee Day of Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 28, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Thursday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.
Officiant: The Rev. Ted Chalk.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Hosparus of Louisville.

David S. Carpenter of Sanger, Texas, formerly of Gunnison, CO, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013. David was born October 30, 1933, in Hollis, OK, the youngest son of Lemmon Ewing and Earle (Nelson) Carpenter. The family moved frequently since his father was a minister. He attended school in several towns, graduating from Center, TX High School in 1952.David was an accomplished athlete in school, lettering in football, basketball, and track. He continued participating in track while he served in the U. S. Army in Europe during the time of the Korean Conflict.
In 1957, he married Nancy Carolyn Kendrick of Alvin, TX. A daughter and three sons were born to them. After residing in East Texas and Houston for several years, the family moved to Gunnison, CO in 1976, living there until 2013.
David enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially camping, riding motorcycles, hunting, skiing, and cutting his own firewood.
David is survived by Nancy, his wife of almost 57 years, daughter, Sheri (Carpenter) Miller of Arvada, CO and son, Mark and wife Marcy of Sanger. Also four grandchildren, Shawn and wife, Sarah, and Shelby Miller of Arvada, CO, Cole Carpenter and Payton Fabela of Sanger, as well as, three great-grandchildren, Katrina and Austin Miller and William Roman, and a sister, Ann Thorburn of Faley, AL. David was preceded in death by two sons, Craig and Jeff of Gunnison and his parents.
David was a faithful member of the Church of Christ from his youth.
Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Shawn Miller and Cole Carpenter, nephews, Keith Carpenter and Rick Rasor and friends, Glenn Smith and Steve Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are great-grandsons, Austin Miller and Will Roman.
The family has requested that any memorial donations be sent to the Alzheimers Association.

Edward T. Carpenter, a locomotive scheduling coordinator for the Louisville & Nashville Railroad, died at 1:15 a.m. -Tuesday at his hone, 111 Arbor Park South. Carpenter, 61, worked Monday, but had a heart attack Monday night. He was a native of New Albany, Ind., and had worked for the railroad 40 years. He was a member of Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Msgr. Bouchett General Assembly and was past Grand Knight of the Blessed Mother Council Survivors are his widow, the former Mary Ellen Clark; a daughter, Miss Patricia Ann Carpenter, and his mother, Mrs. Margaret E. Carpenter. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 6105 S. Third. Burial will he in Calvary Cemetery. The body is at Ratterman's, 2815 S. Fourth.GRAVE: image
