Memorial #: 218945615
Bio: Ramona Ellen Shephard
Independent Record (Helena, MT)  |  7 June 2013
Ramona Ellen Shephard was born on April 12, 1932, in Wimborne, Alberta, to Sophia Lindeman Carpenter and Austin Carpenter. On June 2, 2013, she went to heaven after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Granny, as her grandchildren called her, lived a full and long life. She was a kind and gentle lady who would do anything for you. Her passion was baking and being an old-school farm girl. There was no such thing as diet food to be found in any of her recipes. Her golden heart and her hard-working hands have come to rest. We will miss you, but we will never forget you, Granny.

Preceding her in death were her brothers, Frank Carpenter and Gary Freeman; sisters, Velma Vickers and Vivian Beninger; and her son, Brent W. Shephard.

Surviving her are her son Brian D. Shephard; her sisters, Shirley Colvin and Iren Burk; her brothers, Ray, Bud and Bob Carpenter; and her grandchil-dren, Chloe Ann Hicks-Shephard, Claire Ellen Hicks-Shephard, Brittania Shephard and Breque Shephard.

Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled, per her wishes. A special thank-you to all the staff at St. Peter's Cancer Treatment Center and Hospice of St. Peter's for your kindness.

Burial: Montana State Veterans Cemetery, Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana, USA
Plot: Sec B, row 3, plot 62
Memorial #: 9496329
Bio:
Frank Joseph Beniger, 74, passed away at St. Peter's Hospital on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003. He was a gentle man who never spoke an unkind word about anyone.

Frank was born on Oct. 30, 1929, at the family farm in East Helena. He was the fifth child of Frank M. and Anna Beniger, and his four sisters were thrilled when their baby brother joined the family.

He attended the Catholic School in East Helena and graduated from Helena High School. Before entering the service, he worked as a truck driver for F.C. Hysell, his brother-in-law.

Frank entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 25, 1950, and served on the USS Boxer as a radioman during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on July 9, 1954. His decorations included the following awards: Korean Service, United Nations, China Service, Good Conduct and National Defense.

Frank worked at American Chemet Corporation in East Helena form Feb. 2, 1959, to Jan. 1, 1995 35 years.

In recognition of his loyal employment service record, American Chemet Corporation dedicated a building in his honor the Beniger Building. Frank was pleased to be recognized in such a wonderful way.

Frank loved his many nieces and nephews, who will remember him as a kind and loving uncle. Nieces Kim Waltee and Deb Lauer have fond memories of uncle Frank who hauled them around as children on his foot with their arms wrapped around his leg.

Later, he would show Deb's husband, Gary, where the fishing spots were at Canyon Ferry and Hauser reservoirs. Mark, Kim's husband, has many memories of uncle Frank's hunting and fishing adventures. Nephew Dr. David Peck remembers getting his first mule deer hunting and panning for gold on the Prickley Pear Creek with uncle Frank in Montana.

Niece Bobbi Locken remembers how she thought uncle Frank was so handsome and looked like the movie star Glenn Ford.

Great-niece and nephew Autumn and Drew Waltee watched over uncle Frank during the last three years of his life while he lived at Hunter's Point. Great-uncle Frank always had a story to share with them. He enjoyed saving the newspaper clippings of the sporting events Autumn and Drew participated in. Uncle Frank will always have a very special place in many of our hearts.

His parents, Frank and Anna Beniger, and his wife, Vivian, preceded him in death. He is survived by four sisters, Ann Peck of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Margaret Hanshaw of Auburn, Wash.; Frances Hysell of Helena, and Elsie Magennis and her husband, Ernie, of Santa Barbara; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Tuesday at Retz Funeral Home. Chapel services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home. Interment will follow with military honors at the Montana State Veterans Cemetery at Fort Harrison. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Montana State Veterans Cemetery, P.O. Box 5715, Helena, Montana 59604.
