Leslie M. Carpenter, Jr., (Moe) passed from this life to a better place on January 4, 2021 at The Pines Health and Rehab in Lyndonville, VT, after struggling for years with dementia.He was born, one of eight children, to Leslie Carpenter, Sr. and Pearl Rash Carpenter in Concord, Vt., on February 17, 1932. His parents and all of his siblings predeceased him. Brothers; John, Donald, Roger, Francis (Bud) and Richard; Sisters, Ruth Martin and Nancy Briggs. Moe attended school in Concord before enlisting in the Air Force Military Police stationed in El Paso, Texas. He married Evelyn (Tootie) Silver (Coakley), his high school sweetheart and 5 sons were born to this marriage. Randall (Randy) predeceased his dad in 2011. 4 sons survive, Robin (Kathy), Timothy (Gail), Eric (Stacey), and Tracy (Gary) along with daughter-in-law Nancy (Richard) Bean. Moe and Tootie's marriage ended in divorce but the two remained friends until she passed away.
Two years after the divorce from Tootie, he met Virginia Brown, whose husband had died and left her with six children. Moe married Ginny, and became step dad to her children, Now there were 11 pre and young teenagers in the family, and one can only imagine the challenges this presented. But you would have to know Moe with his love for children, to understand he took this all in stride. In Concord, he was Cub Scout and Boy Scout Leader, helped create a skating rink, and together with Ralph Keach, built a rope tow on the hill above High Street, so the local children could enjoy skiing. He loved basketball games and attended as frequently as possible. Unfortunately, the marriage to Ginny was dissolved after 10 years.
Sometime later, he married Bonnie Thurston and became step-dad to Vicki (Vince) O'Leary, Bill Thurston (Nancy Brown), and Tammy Thurston Brown (deceased). Bonnie passed away suddenly in 2010 after 29 years of a happy marriage. They enjoyed camping, dancing at the Moose Club along with best friends, Milt and Rena Percy, and fixing up their home on School Street.
Subsequent to Bonnie's passing Moe's son, Randy and wife Nancy, introduced their dad to his current wife, Edna Carpenter. Moe was once again Step-dad to her children, Brian (Linda) Blakslee and Lori (Bob) Mann. As one might imagine, Moe was grandpa to many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved them all and he and Edna liked to entertain a whole household of people on holidays, and simply for a cabin-fever-reliever in February each year. There was a special jam session at their home where Moe was joined by friends and their wives that included Milt Percy, Ronnie Noyes, Glen Gadapee, and Steve Gadapee, for guitar playing, singing, and a huge spaghetti dinner afterwards. The camp in summer was active with combined families and friends for pontoon boat rides, kayaking, cook outs, bonfires, fireworks, with food galore (and probably a drink or two). Wonderful memories, never to be forgotten.
His military experience served him well after an honorable discharge when he returned home to serve as constable and mediator for Concord and its town people. He worked as Manager of Noyes Tire Company for many years and also worked for Vinton Motors. After retirement, he kept busy as maintenance supervisor for East Point Properties, Lyndon Institute, and drove cars for St. J Auto, and enjoyed camping with family and friends. He was well known at campgrounds as the entertainer with his beautiful voice and guitar playing talents, along with son, Randy. They had a captive audience wherever they went.
In later years, he and wife, Edna, purchased a camper and enjoyed wonderful times with friends and family at Shadow Lake in Concord. Peaceful hours spent in his pontoon boat and kayaking on the lake were precious to Moe as he began to slowly slip into dementia.
He will be remembered as a joyful, helpful, people-person, who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and times spent with family. His wisdom and special way of solving issues will be remembered by a myriad of people who sought his advice.
There will be no services at this time. The family plans graveside services on or around Memorial Day in May, 2021 at the Concord Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. A final notification with exact date and time will be published in May. Guibord-Pearsons Funeral Home in Lyndonville, Vt is in charge of arrangements.

William G. Carpenter passed away suddenly at the age of 48, Sunday morning, Jan. 28, 2007. He and Patty Lewis were currently caretakers at Echo Ledge Farm Inn on Route 2 in Kirby.He was born in Concord, Vt., Aug. 2, 1958, the youngest of 10 children born to George and Mary (Nault) Carpenter.
He is survived by his loving and devoted companion, Patty Lewis of Kirby (PO Box 37, East St. Johnsbury 05838); three children: Jody Cutter and his wife Beth, and daughters Jenna and Sierra of Concord (2267 Long Hill Road 05824), Jessa Carpenter of St. Johnsbury (PO Box 4085, 05819), Ryan Carpenter of St. Johnsbury (PO Box 4085, 05819) and his girlfriend Katie Hale of Waterford; Patty's children: Stephen Klemchuk of Barnet and Trista Klemchuk and her son Kadin of St. Johnsbury; three grandchildren: Jenna Quimby, Sierra Cutter and Kadin Rosa; seven brothers and sisters: Maren Downing and her husband Mac of Lunenburg, Vt. (PO Box 33, 05906), Dianne Handy and her husband Tony of St. Johnsbury (140 Gilman Ave. 05819), Janice Hemond and her husband Michael of Waterford (Remick Road 05819), Patsy Stetson and her husband Doug of Lyndonville (3227 Red Village Road 05851), George "Buzz" Carpenter and his wife Debbie of North Concord (205 Beach Drive 05858), Peg Keach and her husband Dick of Lyndonville (536 Sheldon Brook Road 05851) and Bob Carpenter of St. Johnsbury (139 Central St. Apt. 3 05819).
He is also survived by his "second mom," Aunt Leenie Pinard of Concord, and aunt "Aunt Gert" Renaud of St. Johnsbury; special brother-in-law Gene Comeau; close friends Romeo Demers, Dan Warner, Richard Mayhew, Randy Locke and Dennis Prevost.
Billy was a special uncle to his nieces and nephews: Dan Comeau, Dianne and Jim Peyton, Jeanine and Keith Porter, Teresa and Stan Switser, Sully and Kim Handy, Elisa and Rodney Maurice, Jennifer and Jack Bassett, Sam and Megan Handy, Mike Jr. and Eva Hemond, Mark and Tara Hemond, Michelle and Scott Parseghian, Melissa and Jamie Murphy, James and Jennifer Hemond, Jeremy Hemond, Gidget and Paul Doty, Douglas Jr. and Kristi Stetson, Buzzy and Wendi Carpenter, Carrie and Michael Priest, Lauralee Keach, Richard Jr. and Kate Keach, Geoffrey Carpenter, Cady Carpenter and Sarah Carpenter, as well as 26 great-nieces and nephews.
Bill loved spending time with his kids and family. He was a loving and supportive companion, dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. When he wasn't with his family, Bill's other passion was his music. He was an accomplished musician and a member of various bands throughout the years. He enjoyed four-wheeling with family and friends. Remembered favorite pastimes with Bill include: band practice, road trips to music stores and four-wheeling trips to the top of the world. His children remember: family biking trips to Franconia Notch, vacationing in Maine, camping at Lakeside in Island Pond, trips to Al Hall camp, ice fishing, dark walks, truck treats, driving lessons and hunting in Old Gus, making up his own words to songs and his whistle. Patty remembers: shopping trips with grandchildren, dinners out, the trip to South Carolina, silly antics to make others smile and laugh. His brothers and sisters remember growing up in Concord, a close-knit, caring community. Their memories include: learning to ski on the ski tow, riding the traverse down Mt. Tug, vacations at Old Orchard, playing on "The Common," sliding down Danforth's hill, skating at the ballfield, Bouchard's Store and the August birthday parties at Al Hall Camp.
Bill was a friend to everyone; his home and heart were open to all. His smile never left his face and his silly sense of humor could always bring you up when you were down. He was a lover of animals and all who knew him felt his depth of compassion.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Carpenter, an infant brother, infant sister Georgia Mae Carpenter, nephews Dennis Comeau and Joseph Carpenter, Aunt Helen Carpenter and Uncle Bob Pinard.
Funeral services will be held in Concord, Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Concord Community Church. Burial will be in May at the Concord Village Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home Friday evening 5-8 p.m.
