Descendants of Nicolas Carpentier-131866 are documented to the present day via the lineage that went to Quebec. For the first couple of generations the documentation is a little light.
Group 45 had three males, a Quick, a Duclos and a Carpentier that Y-DNA tested and had a common genealogical ancestor Claude Carpenter-131802 (born 10 May 1636 in Neuville Ferrier, Seine Martine, France and who died on 27 February 1709 in Neuvill, Portneuf, now in Quebec, Canada) who Y-DNA tested and matched each other genetically and genealogically. See the Discovery History in the Table of Contents below.
There are about 3,842 descendants listed in this report. Please see the index in the Table of Contents below.
We are looking for more biological male Carpentiers to Y-DNA test on this line. We are happy to answer questions!

It has been determined that there have been some formal and informal adoptions in this descendant line. Sometimes a young widow with a son would remarry and the young lad would bond with his step-father then assume his surname. Before bigger and moreformalized governments, this was not uncommon. On occasion some children were given up for adoption or farmed out to relatives.
We call these type of events Non-Paternity Events or NPEs. This means that sometimes a Carpentier or Carpenter descendant may occasionally have a different genetic profile from what is expected. Or conversely, a Carpentier descendant who was adopted has a different surname, but the genetic profile of this Carpenter line.
