NOTE: Birth locations for many of these earliest Zimmermans remain unknown but suspected. Some Zimmermans left Steffisburg as early as 1688 or so; others left by 1710. They resided in Alsace from 1688 until they came to America UNLESS they moved somewhere else in the meantime. For example if our Hans was the son of Peter of Alsace, he would have been born in Alsace; if he was the son of Hans and Madle Blanck Zimmerman he would have been born in Steffisburg. Per Robert C.
